Hey Everyone!!
I hope I am finding you all in good health and enjoying your little ones if they have already arrived! If they have not I wish you all the luck in the world as you start your new family!
I am here today to talk to you about getting back into shape after your little ones have arrived! I myself am a Sign Language Interpreter, busy mom of 2 little boys and an Independent Beachbody Coach; so I understand how hard it is to get back into the swing of things. My boys are 3 and 17 months, so I have been spending the past year getting my body back and figuring out what the right way is to go about doing it! Beachbody has definitely been a turning point in my life because not only has it taught me how to get back in shape but has allowed me to help others do so as well! I hope you find these tips helpful on your journey.
First of all, you need to realize that it took you nine months to grow your little one, so it will take time to get your body back. You also need time to let your body heal and just enjoy your baby before you get too worried about your appearance. Once you find yourself in the right state of mind you will be more likely to find a program that works for you and stick with it! One thing I love about fitness and nutrition is that it is not a "one size fits all" world! There really is something out there for everyone.
Setting reasonable goals if a very important step in this process. If you have not worked out for awhile or your eating has not been perfect you will want to ease back into things. While your main goal may be to eat 100% healthy or lose 20, 50, 100lbs you will not want this to be a starting point to focus on. Try eating 5-6 times a day and making 2 out of those 6 meals healthy this will help keep you on the right path and ensure that your metabolism is staying active throughout the day. Then increase it once you get used to it. You can also focus on losing those first 5 pounds and once those are off focus on the next 5! Setting little goals will make the accomplishments come quicker and you can celebrate after each one. This will help you keep going. Falling off the wagon is also bound to happen, so do not get frustrated if it does. Look at it as a bad day or meal and keep on going! Just because you make one wrong choice in a day doesn't mean that whole day is out the window. You also need to allow yourself a cheat meal so you are not deprived. This will keep you from binding and throwing all that hard work out the window.
Getting back in shape is 70% nutrition and 30% fitness, so knowing what to eat is important. You want to focus mostly on protein and vegetables as your main sources of nutrients. Those should fill the majority of your meals each day. Carbs, fruits, healthy fats and oils, will still be an important part of your balanced diet but you will be eating less of these due to the sugar and fat content. Make sure to choice lean, low fat meats and less starchy veggies. With carbs you want to focus on whole grain, or whole wheat which includes pasta, crackers and breads. Make sure you are watching your portions as well. This will help you not to over eat.
With fitness you want to make sure to ease back into things. Setting a goal of working out twice a week and working up to 5 days a week may be a good way to start. This can be anything such as walking, running the stairs in your house, strength training or even running around with your kids to start. Once you feel ready you can pick out a workout program that looks best for you! This can be anything from low impact yoga and Pilates, to high impact such as running, Zumba, T25 or having a dance party with your kids! Dance based workouts can be fun and make you forget you are working out. I hope you find this helpful on your journey and remember that I have been in your shoes and am still working on getting my pre-baby body back too. It takes time but with a little determination you can do anything! Hey... you are having a baby aren't you :)
Good luck and enjoy your little ones!
